This morning Toni, Sarah, and I helped the SOF (Student Organic Farm) mulch and weed almost all of our annual vegetables.  It was a lot of work, especially because it became hot over the noon hour.  Thankfully three hours of work was all that was needed.  I'm hoping it won't take too much more work this summer to care for these plants.  We'll see.  There should be another workday next week to tend the perennial plants. ... Then again some of us may be moving Sally next weekend.
The next time we'll see our leader, Andy Larson, will be in about three weeks.  Next week he is getting married and then honeymooning / vacationing in Hawaii.  It'll be different to not have Andy around.  Toni and I have seen him in so many places, even around campus.  For a while there it seemed we were following each other.  Toni even thought she saw him in the Ames Fourth of July Parade, though he says he was mowing the SOF.  Quantum mechanics... Andy can superposition, right?

I found and purchased the Epsom salt and fish emulsion today.  I was hoping to fertilize the tomatoes and peppers at the Mills, but I cannot get reach them tonight. No loss because it is still in the upper 80s/low 90s.  Hopefully I'll find some time this week to work on their garden.

Research is going all right.  Dr. Houk is on vacation, so it will be a quiet week.  I'm hoping to take a good mass spectrum of low m/z ions.  Each day I'm feeling a bit better, so I hope that I can continue to work more.  Cooler days should help me heal, and it looks like a cooler front is coming on Monday.  Hopefully we'll get some rain, too!

Last Thursday I found five quarters on the 24th Ave. / Grand St. intersection.  It was a surprise, and it helped me do some laundry (I didn't need to search for as many quarters).

My internet connection is working well tonight.  I should be able to regularly post as long as it keeps working.

Some day I think my friends will look at this journal.  Maybe I need to add them.
Anyhow today I've cleaned a bit and relaxed.  All I have left to do is dry some dishes and fold some socks.  Next Saturday I can go to a bike sale at the mall.  I'm not sure what to expect or if I can even make it.  My friend, Joel A., invited me to a Men's Retreat at Pine Lake near Eldora, IA, which meets next Saturday, too.  Well, hopefully I can figure what I'll do next weekend soon.
In the meantime I need to get some seeds ready for some friends.  I'm not sure how much they'll grow (beans, carrots, peppers, and tomatoes), but I would like to get some plants going.  And I don't think we'll try transplanting these plants as soon as we'll transplant to the SOF plots.  Anyhow, there's a bit to do this week...

Yo,
Tomorrow I will be busy preparing for my group meeting presentation on Friday and playing in the dirt with the Organic Farming (SOF) club.  At the moment I hope to garden at three different places, learning people's different growing methods/etc.  I'm not sure how much time I'll have to commit to other stuff.  I've been asked to join the "Transportation Toastmasters" club that meets at the Iowa DOT building, but I feel like I have enough stuff happening.
The incident at Virginia Tech has bummed me out.  Many of the buildings are open and welcome to the public, so anyone could walk in and start causing problems.  And I wouldn't want to restrict ISU's buildings...I just hope we can all be safe and able to work on our projects/research.
I learned Heather Netzloff will be a post-doc in Theresa Windus' group.  My friend, Michelle, knows Heather from a few years ago.  I guess we all go to the same church.  Anyhow, it'll be good to meet her.
Well, I should get going.  Maybe I'll try cooking tomorrow morning.
